HEYA! You might be here by some stupid mistake - but we'd be more than happy if you zap around a bit! We consider ourselves creatives, and, among other things, that includes doing a lot of stuff for your telly: Campaigns for upcoming programs, sports shows, programme presentations and promotion stuff. We also do a lot of graphic design but there's not enough room for that here. Most importantly, we try to have a lot of fun with what we do, and if you feel the same way, you should definately give us a call. —EL STUPIDOS
We just got the brand new ENTER Magazine with our latest article about motion design called “I AM INTO POST DIGITAL CREATION CULTURE“.
The ENTER-layouters have done a great job layouting the article spiced up with a bunch of photo’s from the digital festival OFFF in Lisbon, Portugal.
The article inspires and guide the readers directly to the website of the magazine where all the visuals is shown. This was very important for ENTER to generete more trafic on their website and are there any better media than the internet to show motion design – I don’t think so.
The daily morning show at TV 2 was recently thrown at the feet of the danish production companies for a fresh and new view on this classic program. The pitch was offered to a total of nine companies, and we were asked to create the program design for one of them.
The production company - Unnamed in the name of all things top secret and confidential - had a clear vision of where they wanted to go with the graphics, and since we had prior experience with the design for this particular program, it was a nice collaboration. Unfortunately they didn’t win the pitch and we will probably never get to finish and air this.
Nonetheless we want to share a few screenshots with you.
We have made a new identity for KammerOperaen (Chamber Opera). KammerOperaen is a opera company touring with opera experiences at eye level. It’s about giving companies, educational institutions and cultural centres an experience that will change and inspire them to escape the everyday life. Opera doesn’t have to be boring.
It’s a sad fact that many of the truly talented Music Video directors remain unknown. Whenever the art of music videos come up, it always seem to be the same tired crew getting all attention. Alas - Spike, Gondry and Cunningham has done some amazing work, but in a scene with so many incredible talents I find it a bit odd. I plan to remedy this, by posting some of them on this blog.
The first, Sam Brown:
Sam has won a string of MTV VMAs, MVPA, D&AD and CAD awards, but is still curiously unknown for the most part. Most of you probably know his James Blunt videos (You’re Beautiful, High, Goodbye my lover). However the vid he made for Doves 7 years ago, stands out as one of his best:
We have created the winning identity for the new cultural epicenter in Odense: KulturMaskinen (The Culture Machine). Yes ma’am - we have won! and our identity was chosen among a total of 12 entries and this makes us both proud and happy as hell.
- KulturMaskinen will be the new multicultural institution in the heart of Odense and it will gather a whole bunch of cultural activities and venues under one roof - or building complex, that is.
Why the huha did we win then? Well, most design agencies (and their customers) are always looking for a fixed semantic solution to the “identity problem”. This often results in a static and rigid logo that integrates poorly into the the many many different media platforms it will be used in. Combining this with the fact that culture by definition is diverse and based on human interaction, it felt natural to create a living, evolving brand, that would be easily recognizable despite it’s organic and changing nature.
With a set of simple building blocks, a grid, and a few dogmas for movement and rotation, we had the right setup:
And by applying and using these blocks we could create different versions of the identity:
This was the simple version of the idea… Now we can’t wait to begin animating, and maybe even coding this stuff, and give it a life of it’s own. Until then, it will not be a true “Culture Machine”!
Submarine channel has a growing collection on it´s site with some of the best title sequence designs through the years, divided into animation, motion graphics, mixed media and 3D. Forget the Film and Watch the Titles…
Now we’re done with the identity for the alternative travel agency Luca Brasi.
We came up with the logo and 3 different universes enclosing the many things Luca Brasi wanted to communicate. Luca Brasi will concentrate sending their clients to only a few destinations and that gave us the idea to make the “Africa-universe”, “North-universe” and a generic universe.
Luca Brasi “fix things” and takes you to the limit giving you adventures that you can’t find any other places. It’s as far from a traditionel tourist night out at Mallorca that you can get. Website to come.
Say boyakasha to Kim - Our new conceptually prominent graphic-motion-3d-flashy-vizkid AKA The $tud.
He’s the latest addition to the STUPID team, and a fine fit for the roster! He almost finished design school, had an internship at Vitamin Pictures in Chicago and until recently he was employed at F-Film in Copenhagen.
STUPID seemed like a good move, and Kim will be working a whole bunch with conceptual design within motion, 3d and interactivity. Say hello!
The reverse grafitti project is a cool and conceptually very strong way of doing non-destructive and eye-opening street-art. I totally digg this idea! There are more vids on their site. (thx Janus for the link)
Ecocho is a new search engine that fights climate change! For every 1000 searches made, Ecocho grows 2 trees - this offsets a ton of greenhouse gases. The trees are paid via ads on the site. The searchengine use Yahoo technology.
If you have a small wish ’bout saving the Earth then bookmark the site and start eco-searching! (if you want to save power you can change the white backgruond on the site to black)
I was very happy to see that ARoS has just opened a new exhibition showcasing the works of five of the best music video directors of our time. This is soo cool and a brave move, since music videos are an integral part of modern pop culture, and in many of its representations has little to do with real art. But these directors are indeed artists and it’s great to see that ARoS appreciates this and creates a truly contemporary exhibition with their works.
The only thing I am missing is a better marketing of the exhibition - A video installation deserves an interactive presentation with visual teasers of the exhibition, doesn’t it?
VIA university college is the third-largest educational institution in Denmark. They gave us the opportunity to combine our webdesign and our motion design skills. The process of designing a website as a motion design experience, gave us a direct approach to incorporate a visual flow through the different content areas. Once again we would relay on our german connection, HECQ, to aid us with the sound design, adding an extra dimension to the VIA universe.

The Annecy animation festival has now started and runs until the 14th of June if you feel the urge to lock yourself in together with thousands of other animationnerds in a french cinema. As usual it is a great range of themes, short and feature films in all kinds of techniques. If I had the chance I would definately see good old Bill Plymptons latest feature Idiots and Angels which is in the competition.
We have finished materials for Innobox who is working with innovation in conferences, lectures and workshops. We couldn’t make this in an ordinary way – that’s why the Oblique-angled cut was introduced. It works fine on the different elements, people notise it and the customer is happy.
